I've just returned from my new Saturday morning ritual...the farmers market in downtown TC. With the crazy week we've all endured and the doom and gloom news that threatened our economy and feeling of security as a nation, I wondered what I would find there today. The answer was truly inspiring. It was busy (as is almost always is) but I mean REALLY busy. I overheard the same typical conversations...people here talk to each other as they shop...they point out "good finds", the vendors toss in a free apple or two, people greet one another very warmly. I also overheard "snippets" that had to do with this crazy week...
"everything will be fine"..."look how many people are here today!"..."I sold out in the first hour...", etc.
It seems that the people of Traverse City have taken a stand and headed out to support their local economy in every way they can. The town itself was no exception to this rule...coffee houses were busy, the theatre lit up with people waiting to get in, shops with doors open and people strolling in and out. If every town across our country is experiencing even a little piece of this wonderful abundance, then it seems to me that we will be just fine. I for one, took a little extra pride in the purchases I made today...and will enjoy my sunflowers a little more than usual.
